Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has commended Ecobank for creating a unique platform that brings together architects, engineers, designers, builders, financiers, innovators, and young professionals to shape the future of the built environment.
The Governor gave the commendation on Wednesday, at the opening ceremony of the Ecobank Design and Build Exhibition, held at the Ecobank Pan African Centre (EPAC), Victoria Island, Lagos. He was represented at the event by the Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Film and Video Censors Board, Mrs. Bukola Agbaminoja.
Speaking on the theme of the exhibition, “How We Build, How We Live,” Sanwo-Olu noted that it goes beyond aesthetics, stressing that the forum highlights innovative solutions that are environmentally friendly, resilient, and highly functional.
“Lagos is a city that is constantly evolving. From housing developments to bustling markets, from bridges to creative workspaces, everything we see started as a vision. But vision alone is not enough, we need skilled professionals, supportive policies, responsible institutions, and sustainable financing. This exhibition brings all these essential elements together,” he said.
The Governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to building a modern, liveable, and inclusive Lagos, pointing out that good design and solid construction are not luxuries but necessities for a sustainable city.
He praised Ecobank for recognising young professionals, artisans, and small businesses, describing them as the true builders who turn ideas into tangible realities.
He also urged financial institutions to see housing, infrastructure, and design not as abstract concepts but as viable, sustainable projects with lasting benefits for the people.
Sanwo-Olu further charged professionals in the design and construction sector to push the boundaries of innovation, adopt environmentally friendly practices, embrace inclusivity, and build structures that will stand the test of time.
While congratulating Ecobank, the organisers, and the exhibitors, he expressed optimism that the exhibition would ignite new partnerships, inspire bold ideas, and lead to tangible projects that reflect the collective aspirations of Lagos, Nigeria, and Africa at large.
