Mercy Munir (not real name), an Abuja resident, has narrated how OPay withheld the N38,000 she transferred to her son’s account.

Munir told EQToday that she had transferred the sum from her Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB) account to her son’s OPay account on May 13.

“I initially thought banks were having their normal interbank transfer issues when my son told me he had not received the money I transferred to him during the period,” Munir told EQToday.

“After a day went by and the money had still not impacted his OPay account, I decided to check my GTB account to confirm whether the money had been reversed to my account, but it had not.

“I was then forced to send an email to GTB to know the status of the N38,000 transaction.”

When Munir reached out to her bank, she was told that the transaction was successful and that the money had since left GTB.

“GTB also made me understand that the N38,000 was now in Opay’s position,” said Munir.

“To add to that, I was also given that particular transaction’s session ID to enable OPay credit my son’s account with the money.

“When my son later reached out to OPay with the session ID, however, they told him the issue was being worked on.

“Unfortunately, it has been three weeks since I made the transfer, but the money has still not impacted my son’s OPay account. OPay has also not done anything to make sure that the issue is resolved.

“They have continued to tell my son that the issue is still being worked on. An issue that shouldn’t have taken them more than a day resolve?”

EQToday sent an email to OPay for a reaction to Munir’s complaint on Wednesday, but it had not been responded to at press time.
