Commuting hurdles will soon be a thing of the past for residents of the Abuja Children’s Home in Karu, courtesy of two fully restored buses delivered by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA).
The vehicles, which had been decommissioned and non-operational for an extended duration, underwent comprehensive overhauls before being returned to service to facilitate smoother transit and elevate the general care of the young charges.
Presiding over the official handover, the Permanent Secretary of the FCT Women Affairs Secretariat, Hajia Asmau Mukhtar, highlighted that the measure demonstrates the government’s steadfast pledge to safeguard disadvantaged youth and empower the caregivers who look after them. She credited FCT Minister Nyesom Wike for approving the vehicle restorations, framing the initiative as a tangible demonstration of the ‘Renewed Hope’ vision. Mukhtar also urged the orphanage’s team to safeguard the investment through consistent maintenance and responsible use.
Receiving the transport fleet, Queency Patrick, the administrator of the facility, expressed deep appreciation to the FCTA, describing the intervention as both crucial and timely for streamlining their everyday logistics. She affirmed that the vehicles would resolve longstanding travel bottlenecks, pledging that they would be maintained meticulously and utilized strictly for the children’s welfare. Patrick also praised Minister Wike for prioritizing the needs of vulnerable youth, offering prayers for his ongoing guidance and strength in public service.
Beyond easing mobility, this intervention is anticipated to bolster daily childcare operations at the home, reinforcing the FCTA’s broader mandate to uplift and protect vulnerable community members throughout the territory.
