ABUJA: Vice-President Kashim Shettima has said Nigeria possesses the capacity to become one of the greatest nations on earth if its citizens embrace tolerance and peaceful coexistence.
Shettima stated this on Wednesday in Jos, Plateau State, during a courtesy visit to the Gbong Gwom Jos and Chairman of the Plateau State Council of Chiefs and Emirs, Da Jacob Gyang-Buba, at his palace.
According to the Vice-President, Nigerians share a common heritage that outweighs differences capable of dividing them.
“We are all connected one way or the other. We must therefore continue to live together. What binds us together supersedes what separates us,” he said.
Shettima, who was in the state to formally receive Governor Caleb Mutfwang into the All Progressives Congress (APC), described traditional rulers as highly respected leaders who play a critical role in sustaining peace and stability.
“They are not just custodians of our cultural heritage; they help uphold society by preaching peace among their subjects,” he noted.
He commended the cordial relationship between the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, and Governor Mutfwang, described the political realignment as a positive development for Plateau State.
The Vice-President said the coming together of the two leaders would enhance peace, stability and development in the state.
“There can be no development without peace. With their coming together, the state will enjoy more tranquillity and dividends of democracy,” he added.
Shettima thanked the Plateau State Government and its people for their hospitality.
Earlier, Governor Mutfwang praised the working relationship between President Bola Tinubu and Vice-President Shettima, saying it would continue to benefit the nation.
In his response, the Gbong Gwom Jos appealed for improved security efforts to address challenges confronting Plateau State and other parts of the country.
He also commended the political realignment, describing it as beneficial to both the state and the nation.
