Abuja — President Bola Tinubu has asked the Senate to approve a fresh ₦1.15 trillion domestic loan to finance the deficit in the 2025 budget.
The request was contained in a letter addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio and read during plenary on Tuesday.
Tinubu explained that the borrowing was necessary to bridge the funding gap and ensure full implementation of government programmes and projects under the 2025 fiscal plan.
Akpabio subsequently referred the request to the Senate Committee on Local and Foreign Debt for further legislative consideration, with a directive to report back to plenary within one week.
