Guarantee Trust Bank has returned N1.3 million into the account of James Onireke (not real name), the customer whose money was recalled eight weeks ago.

The refund came seven days after aso.rocks investigates reported how the financial institution failed to resolve Onireke’s challenge and stopped attending to him.

“Good morning, sir. GTBank has unblocked my funds. I did a transaction the day before yesterday, and it wasn’t unblocked, so I am guessing they unblocked between yesterday and this morning,” Onireke told aso.rocks investigates on Thursday.

Recall mail Onireke got from GTB

aso.rocks investigates had reported how Onireke got notified about the recall of N1.3 million from his GTB account on April 24. According to his account officer, Providus Bank had written GTB with claims that the money was erroneously credited.

When he confirmed that it was not an erroneous payment, Onireke demanded that GTB provide proof from Providus Bank that the money was indeed paid in error. However, after some exchanges, he noticed that the bank had ignored him.

His attempts to get a resolution were fruitless until aso.rocks investigates reported the incident in June.
